Prize packs made from available Collector Boosters, Set Boosters, and Draft Boosters.

This Throwback was originally released in June of 2022 and is a great set!

This is a Commander Draft and works a little different from other prereleases.

These Prerelease Packs are made for Draft and contain the three boosters you’ll need to draft—and plenty of other good stuff, too.

Let’s crack one of these open and see what’s inside:

  • Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Draft Boosters
  • 1 Traditional foil rare or mythic rare from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate with a foil year stamp
  • 1 D20
  • 1 Reusable deck box with divider

Because Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate is a product designed for drafting, we wanted to show that off at the Prerelease! So, unlike your normal Sealed Deck, you’ll be drafting.

In a normal eight-person draft, you open one of your packs, select a card, put it face down in a pile in front of you, then pass the rest of the pack to your left. You then pick up the next pack passed to you and repeat this process. At the end, you’ll build your deck out of what you picked.

Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate uses a slightly different drafting method. Here’s how it will work:

  • You open your pack and select two cards you want (instead of the traditional one card), put them face down in a pile in front of you, and pass the rest to the player to your left in a face-down pile.
  • You pick up the pack from the player to your right and repeat this process!
  • When the first pack has no more cards left in it, repeat with the second pack, just to the right this time. The third pack is back to the left again.
  • You’ll then build a 60-card deck. Your deck must have a Commander, or in the case of Backgrounds, two Commanders (check out the Commander rules for more details).
  • Your deck must meet the color identity rules. That means your deck must not contain any cards with mana costs or mana symbols in text boxes of any color other than your commander’s colors.
  • Your decks are not restricted to the Singleton rule. Draft doesn’t have rules about how many copies of a card you can play.
  • Break into four-person tables. Once the game starts, it’s just Commander as regular!

My biggest drafting tip is to keep in mind you’re likely only going to be able to play two colors at the end of the draft, maybe three. So, I’d try and find a legend (or legend and Background pair) you like early on, and then draft around that. You’ll always have access to your Commanders, so you can build around them as you’re drafting, too! For example, if your Commander is Lozhan, Dragons’ Legacy you’re going to want to prioritize Adventures and Dragons a bit higher.
